Understanding the Importance of Winter Wiper Blades

One of the things many motorists do not consider is that the wiper arm for summer blades is much thinner than that for winter blades. The arm is stronger for the winter blade because it has to be able to move along snow load without bending. If the arm bends, the rubber part of the blades can no longer be in contact with the contour of the glass and streaks and smearing will occur.

Another thing to consider with winter wiper blades is that they are enclosed inside a rubber case. This casing will keep things like ice and snow from getting into the moving parts of the wiper blades and impacting the ability of the blades to properly clear the windshield.
